Last week I used thinned acrylic paint to rough in the basic drawing of my composition. I also toned the canvas.
For this next part I will block in large areas of color. Each major element or shape of my composition will be painted very generally with two colors: 1 highlight color and one shadow color. This way I will start establishing light, building the foundation for form and space.
The main point I want to make is that it is easiest in the long run to work general to specific - big shapes and marks, big brushes etc. etc. gradually getting smaller and more refined until you are ready for the smallest details. Next week we will get into the details.
