Week 10 :
Friday, November 2
Bring back your single piece of fruit to paint from again.
- In my demonstration I began by painting the whole surface the color of the shadow of my apple. Then I drew in a basic composition filling as much of the canvas as I could with the apple.
- Then I painted the space around the apple to define the shape of the apple. Finally I added a highlight to the apple and left the underpainting as the shadow on the apple.
- This is a fairly traditional approach to painting using the primary shadow color for the underpainting. It is also a good way to see the importance of contrast provided by the negative space to create the illusion of three dimension.
